Puerto Madryn is by far one of the best and important tourist centres not only for its commodities but also because it is the entrance to Península de Valdés, declared by UNESCO as a Natural Humanity Patrimony.

The economic activity is based on the fishing activity and tourism. The last one started to be  more important  when the Submarine Tourist Commission was formed to develop and build artificial reefs inside the San José and Nuevo golfs, places which are nowadays visited by tourists from all over the world for its traditional submarine in this Diving National Center.

There are seven beach resorts along the coast and most of them are also restaurants and coffee shops which are open all the year long, and in summer they are ideal places to do water sports .
In winter, when the tourist come back from their excursions they could go for walks around the city or along the coast.

During whales season(from June to December) the tourist could have a good sight of the whales from the shore and during the night  admire their typical sounds.
