Known as the archaeological capital of Chile. This is the main city of one of the most surprising culture from the North of Chile, the Atacamiña culture or Likan Antay

San Pedro de Atacama is situated in the mouth of San Pedro river which chains in the salt of Atacama at 2400 m.s.n.m. In front of this, with an incredible view, there is thegreat Andes mountain range, with Iricancabur volcano in it. San Pedro de Atacama is composed by fifteen agricultural communities connected by canals with water coming from the Andes mountain range river
Due to this, the villagers can survive from the farming activity which is their main source of subsistence.

There are almost 5000 inhabitants in San Pedro de Atacama, they are divided in communities or  villages and they have kept their own authorities and life style with a strong conviction of a better life in community
All the communities  get  together in the City Hall of San Pedro de Atacama, which was founded on 24 november in 1980
